Thoughts about the Opening Ceremony 2008:
PREEEEEEEEEEEETY LIGHTING... :O WOW!
Little girl suspended from the roof in a pink dress? Uhm, yeah. We kinda did that already >.> LOL.
Did anyone else see the giant globe with swirly water patterns and people on it and go: "IT'S THE WATERBENDERS!!!!!!!!!"? No? Just me? LOLOL. Okay.
Why do all the western countries look like they're all airline stewards? Srsly. SO UNORIGINAL. And then you get all the African countries looking FABULOUS and it makes me want our flag bearer to come out in Aboriginal get-up. LOLOL.
WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG FOR THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM?!?! We're THIRD LAST. Sort your freaking alphabet out, China. It starts with an A. LOLOL XDDDDDDDDD
Yay for Iraq getting a big round of applause :D
OH. And watching the news tonight, with Kevin07 going around China and talking flat out Mandarin with the locals was so EPICLY COOL. LOLOL. He had to do politiciany things earlier on, but instead of going high profile he went on the streets and spoke to the locals in Mandarin. AH. Go Kevin you awesome thing you :D
I'm conflicted re: George W. Bush's statements btw. I think that if you're going to be all proclaimy (and actually DO NOTHING) specifically because the spotlight is on China for something completely different, you probably shouldn't go and then use their hospitality and be all, "OH HAI. I KINDA HATE YOU BUT YAY FREE OLYMPICS". If you're gonna try and make a stance against human rights violations in China via the Olympics... DON'T GO TO THE OLYMPICS. LOLOL.
BRB. Gotta see other nation's fashions :D ALSO. I think I'm going to enter the fan art contest at H_E if I can find a scanner that works. I have an AWESOME idea :D
EDIT: KEVIN WORE HIS YELLOW HUFFLEPUFF TIE S:DFKJS:DLF:SLKFJ:LSKJFLS :D XDDDD /lameness

Oh, there's totally a specific study of EVERYTHING. And DUDE. Nepal's flag is so EPIC. They're like, "Fuck that rectangle shit. We're going for two triangles on top of each other, LOLOLOL" XDDD

Granted, it is a complicated situation. The Olympics is a wonderful celebration of athletics, and I think it's important to recognize the hard work athletes put in and the spirit of worldwide, peaceful competition. How to do that without seeming to support China's policies?
Isn't that what he always does anyway? XD

And the bad thing was, it was a good speech! If he just had have NOT GONE (like every OTHER president of the US, EVER), it would have made such a powerful statement! LOL.
Peace,

I totally play the flag game too. "Is that Mexico? Oh, Egypt. Dang."
I always get Indonesia and Poland mixed up. Dang simple flags. LOL XD

Also, Kevin rocks :D
Ya, he totally does :D And he's totally an Hufflepuff too XDDD

Eh, I am VERY conflicted about the Olympics. I was very, very disappointed that China did not do much to change their human rights policies...but at the same time, I don't want to boycott the Olympics either because I want to support the U.S. Olympians, and also? The Olympics is just damn cool.
But it does make me angry to see that China spent ALL OF THIS MONEY on the Olympics...and so many people in that country barely have anything. And I'm not one of those Westerners who just harps on about China and their policies...I've actually *been* there, multiple times, and I know how the poorest people live, and it's pretty damn depressing that the majority of the country's wealth is controlled by a tiny, tiny percentage of the population.
And don't even get me started on what happens in hospitals and unborn babies who do not have the right paperwork :(
I know! I kept thinking that the whole time I was watching. In the fashion Olympics, the African countries might compete with each other, but they'd totally leave the rest of us in the dust. Of course, if we came out dressed as cowboys or something, I might have to hide. ;p
The American caps looked awful. The blazers were okay.
Love for that little kid from Sichuan province, though.
I try to ignore politics when the Olympics are actually on. It's one thing to say, "Hey, are you really giving the Games to Beijing?" when it's still a question. But the athletes train their whole lives for it, so let them have a good Olympics, and give them whatever honor is due, regardless of the host country.
Our media gushed a lot over the gymnast on wires at the end, but I thought he was sort of boring. To my mind, nothing beats the Barcelona arrow launch lighting of the torch. That was *sweet*.
I love the internet, by the way. I could watch the whole parade of nations and keep saying, "Oo! I know someone there!" Between that, having lived in a coastal city, and hosting two exchange students, I feel quite well connected to most of the countries! As the Visa commercials say, "Go, world!"
[/am Olympic junkie]
I haven't watched all the countries XD because I luckily could go home then ^^" Germany was one of the last countries as well I think...
But I so liked the women who where dressed like the women in waiting of the different dynasties ♥
