Star Wars: a brilliant set of films

rotae: Ritchie Neville of the band FIVE headbanging (Star Wars: Together)
I swear, I'm going to do an introduction post soon... >.> LOL. I'm just too tired atm *dies* But here's a little tidbit:

I always, absolutely always, cry in these movies:

Moulin Rouge! ("Why does my heart cry? Feelings, I can't fight. You're free to leave me, but just don't deceive me, and please, believe me when I say... 'I love you'")
V For Vendetta ("I shall die here. Every last inch of me shall perish. Except one. An inch. It's small and it's fragile and it's the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.")
Love Actually (I cry at the freaking opening credits... >.> LOL “When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge- they were all messages of love”)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ("I want to see the lights leave your eyes!")
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King ("I am no man")
Big Fish At the end, where all his friends come to see him off when he's taken into the water *SOBS*
Peter Pan "I DO BELIEVE IN FAIRIES!! I DO! I DO!"
...and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

:| No, I am being completely serious about the last one.

So now I'm going to have a bit of a fan girl about Star Wars, because I'm watching it. I'm going to be making "In Kenobi We Trust" signatures for the H_E Hufflepuffs, so I was looking for some screencaps.

Okay. Here we go. Prepare for some mad explaining as to why I cry in Star Wars :D

When Chancellor Palpatine gives the order for the Storm Troopers to assassinate the Jedi? ZOMG *BAWLS EYES OUT* LOL. I guess it's mainly because I'm a Star Wars geek, and I freaking LOVE these Jedis.

When Ki-Adi Mundi turns around... and the look on his face as he realises... I mean... THE MAN HAS A HEART IN HIS FREAKING HEAD. How can you not just LOVE him?! And wow... the SOUND in this part... *dies* such beautiful sound design.

I don't really care about the Twi'lek because she's a shit actor and just there to look like a skanky ho, but the cinematography is brilliant.

And then it cuts to Yoda's stick falling from his hand, and him clutching his chest and falling to his knees... because he can feel the loss of the Jedi... OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG D':

AND ZOMG PLO KOON?! THE MAN LOOKS LIKE HIS HEAD IS INSIDE OUT AND HIS BRAIN GOT CANCER HAD A HAEMORRHAGE... But he's just SO EFFING AWESOME. Can't you just see him getting teased as an initiate? And him just spending hours training to be an awesome Jedi? DAWWWWW... I HATE IT WHEN HE DIES. IT'S SO EFFING SAD!!

And then... the most DEVASTATING part... when the Storm Troopers are going through the Jedi Temple, killing the initiates... and Anakin goes into the Council's chamber... and all the little younglings are there... and the tiny one comes out and says, "Master Skywalker, there are too many of them... what are we going to do?" and then it cuts to Darth Vader mustering the anger and hatred to kill them. And the final shot in the scene... the most brilliant part of it... you just see over the back of the arm of Darth Vader, looking at the younglings... and he extends his arm, and ignites his lightsaber... and the younglings FLINCH, but still have the most AMAZING combination of fear, confusion and hope on their faces ZOMG *BREAKS DOWN INTO TEARS* DDDDDDDDDDD:

But all through this whole part... John Williams, the absolute brilliant BASTARD has the saddest music you've EVER heard... and George actually does freaking awesomely in the DIRECTING of it too... When the camera has this full body shot of the Storm Troopers running after Ki-Adi Mundi and the shot pans down to their feet as they come to a stop... freaking WOW. THAT, is a brilliant shot, and a brilliant vision, George. Why they ever let you near the script, I'll never know, but you do have your moments when there's no dialogue. XD (although to your credit, Obi-Wan was INCREDIBLY pithy and awesome in this :D

And, can I just state the obvious here... how fucking amazing is Obi-Wan in this movie?! I mean, seriously. Anyone who likes Obi-Wan in this movie, should read the BOOK of the movie, because he's written so dry and awesome and zomg. I love him. AND NO. NOT JUST BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE EWAN McGREGOR... >.> (although I can't deny it makes me SUPREMELY physically attracted to him, lol). But seriously... he's the ONLY ONE apart from freaking YODA to survive. He kills one Sith Lord (Darth Maul), the precursor of Darth Vader (General Grievous) who had FOUR LIGHTSABERS and Sith TRAINING, he BASICALLY takes out another Sith (Darth Vader), rescues the girl AND helps deliver the babies. I mean. Wow. What CAN'T the man do?! (I mean, apart from kill his friend/son/brother - which, so far as flaws go, isn't the worst one to have, LOL)

"So this is how liberty dies... to thunderous applause..." - FINALLY a good Padme line!! ZOMG!!?! XD

And wow... Anakin vs. Obi-Wan. I- wow. I was SOBBING throughout the entire fight when I saw it for the first time, because I was seeing Anakin vs. Obi-Wan. And I had been looking forward to that for YEARS. The first thing was when John Williams came up with that theme... DUN dun dun dun DUN dun dun dun DUN dun dun dun dun dun dun... *collapses in chair* wow. AND THEN incorporated The Force theme, and Duel of the Fates and all those fantastic themes into the ONE FIGHT. There just are no words.

And when they're duelling on the walkway, and they grab each other's lightsaber hands, and hold them there, and the music goes "CLIMAX" and the lava goes "CLIMAX" and the heat goes "CLIMAX" and Ewan and Hayden to "CLI-" wait... >.> LMAO XDDDDD

Second, the actual Anakin vs. Obi-Wan fight... that part where their lightsabers are just going so fast that they're a blur, and they don't actually touch, and they draw on the Force and have that hand!porn battle and then go "BOOM!" backwards because of the sheer, raw power that they both have... 0.o ZOMG.

Sideous chucking Senate seats at Yoda and destroying it... wow... go symbolism much, George? LOL

And the acting... on Ewan's part... just all throughout that scene where Anakin is on the bank of lava... wow... "You were my brother, Anakin... I love you!" *bawls* No, seriously, I'm crying, watching this... lol. >.> Actually, his acting is pretty bloody awesome throughout. But especially after he walks down that ramp. "Let her go, Anakin. Let. Her. Go."

"Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil!"
"From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!"
"Well then you ARE LOST!"

"Don't make me kill you."
"Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic... to DEMOCRACY!"
"If you are not with me, then you are my enemy."
"Only a Sith, deals in absolutes."<3 ILU Obi-Wan :D

Wow. Obi-Wan is the Hufflepuffiest Hufflepuff that ever did Puff, man, seriously. XD

Mmm. So yes. All that makes me squee so much, I cry. ZOMG DV JUST HAD HIS FRANKENSTEIN MOMENT, LMFAO XDDDDD Ahem. ANYWAY. I'm always reminded of a quote from a review I read before I saw it in the cinemas that said something like, "I don't know whether the reason I was crying was because it was finally over, or whether it was JUST. THAT. GOOD." XD I so agree. Not that is will ever be over ;) :D

I also shouldn't watch debates about same-sex marriage/adoption. *shakes head* They make me so angry.

Also, ILU BOB BROWN <3

Wow. That... kinda probably took more energy than talking about myself... didn't it... >.> LOL. I'd rather fangirl/squee to be perfectly honest XD MUCH more interesting XD

AND NOW. A SCREENSHOT :D (taken a while ago - but I still have the same desktop and have had it for at least since 2005 ;) :D)

Kk. Bed now. I has work tomorrow <3 *hugs* Sorry about the squeefest XD

Peace,
Rotae

OMG I AM SUCH A CRY BABY IN FILMS TOO :O

Love Actually (I cry at the freaking opening credits... >.> LOL “When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge- they were all messages of love”)

I cry at the freakin' ending :O LOL!! When I see the footage of all those people greeting those at Heathrow airport... with "God Only Knows" playing in the background. I'm gone. I seriously BAWL.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ("I want to see the lights leave your eyes!")

I cry as soon as Lily and James come out of Harry's wand, and talk to him. It's so poignant, and it breaks my heart!

Sad parts, happy parts... I just cry :P LOL!! I'm very emotional and very empathetic.

Oh, don't worry, I cry SO MUCH at the ending of Love Actually as well, LOL. I just START at the beginning XD

GoF was interesting for me... when I first saw it, I started crying when Mr. Diggory was there screaming, "That's my son! That's by boy!" but as I saw it more and more, I kept crying sooner and sooner, LOL. It went from that, to when Lily and James come out of his wand, and now it's finally at that powerful line "I want to see the lights leave your eyes!"

Oh snap. I cry in SO many films, LOL. But these makes me BAWL XD

Peace,
Rotae

Also, I do think Howard Shore writes sadder music than John Williams. Love them though though.

Maclove! I'm sorry, that made me squee.

Star Wars, huh? I hardly ever cry during films -and if I do it's during really weird ones because they remind me of something or whatever; I'm a book-cryer, myself- but yeah, the scene with the younglings is tres, tres knife-in-the-gut.

But RotK, OHMIGOD YES. When Merry and Pip say goodbye at Edoras! "You smoke too much, Pip." ... "What's going to happen?!" "I don't know" sniff. sniff. And then when Frodo sends Sam away...and then at the end...

"I'm glad you are with me, Sam, here at the end of all things."

Jesus H. Christ, was I crying.

Other than that, I think my two most emotional "movie" moments were The Family Stone (STFU, okay? I have a great love for Diane Keaton and crazy families) and the West Wing Ep. with Leo's funeral. And that was. I mean. BAD. I don't think I've ever cried that hard during anything fictional.

Except Deathly Hallows. Of course.

LOL. Maclove makes me squee too <3

YES. I cry so much in TTT and RotK :(

I haven't seen The Family Stone, so I can't comment on that, but YES ZOMG LEO'S FUNERAL *BAWLS* D:

Oh man, don't even talk to me about Deathly Hallows. I woke up really early in the mornings and cried for over a week :(

HOMG ROTS HOMG

Obiiii-Waaaan. And you're so right, it's not just because he's Ewan and therefore awesome by default; it's the weight of knowing everything that's gone before and everything that's coming afterwards and the look on his face as he watches this poor, willy, dangerous boy that he can't save anymore. ACH.

One of my most favouritest things about the HP movies is the way they play all the Harry Vs Voldemort showdowns, especially in GoF and OotP. Ohh, man, I was BAWLING at the possession scene. Ralph Fiennes hits such a perfect note with his voice, he's all insinuating and NNGH and IT HURTS, IT HURTS.
[identity profile] rotae.livejournal.com wrote:
Feb. 22nd, 2008 02:18 am (UTC)
I KNOWWWWW. Ewan just portrays OBI-WAN so well. It's actually Obi-Wan. Not, Ewan acting Obi-Wan, ya know?

YES. I still dunno how I feel about OotP the movie. I only saw it four times in the cinema (that's pretty low for me, as I see movies that I LOVE at least 10 times - Moulin Rouge holds the record, and that's 12), but I did like it. I did cry in the possession scene, but I cry at a lot of things, LOL XD

I am seriously in love with Adium. I like iChat's chat layout and all, but Adium is just SO Customizable that I can't use anything else. *pets it*

Edit: I am also a huge crybaby at movies and stuff.

You are totally right about RotS. It's just an amazing movie. I remember coming out of the midnight showing of it with my friends and being blown away.

"You were my brother, Anakin... I love you!" Amazing. Ewan MacGregor is an amazing actor. Basically, I agree with everything you said above. I'm about to rehash it all. XD

"So this is how liberty dies... to thunderous applause..." - FINALLY a good Padme line!!

I know, right? I love that line. Natalie Portman was wasted on these films... she almost never had any scenes worth watching. I like her politician scenes and I like her final scene with Anakin, before she gets Force-choked, but that's it. I hate Padme later when she dies. She lost the will to live? What kind of a fucking excuse is that?

Now I have to find my copy of RotS so I can watch it!
[identity profile] rotae.livejournal.com wrote:
Feb. 22nd, 2008 02:24 am (UTC)
Yeah. Ewan just GOT Obi-Wan. Like, he just absolutely understood Obi-Wan to a T.

Oh Natalie WAS just SO wasted in the films. She just was NOT used. Where was that strong Leiaesque character from TPM?!

Did you watch it? :D

Big Fish! Yes- that part where the guy's dad asks him to tell him how his story ends = major tear jerk moment for me. ;_;

On GoF - my mom starts getting all teary-eyed on when Harry gets back with Cedric, but I never really cried during any of the graveyard sequence or any part after that.

Deathly Hallows though..I'm probably gonna be bawling when Harry starts going through the forest again.

Your fangirlyness is ADORABLE, btw. I was giggling through this whole post. And agreeing a lot, I mean, I don't cry over Star Wars, but I do get a little choked up.

I cried during I Am Legend. One scene. GODDAMMIT, WHY SAM WHY?

The movie that I cried like a BABY through? Oh geez. Return of the King. Three separate parts.

1. Eomer seeing Eowyn go down at the battle, and his scream. Oh dear god, Karl Urban just BLEW that one out of the water, I was practically shaking with how much emotion was in that.

2. The "you bow to no one" thing where EVERYBODY ON MIDDLE-EARTH grovels before the hobbits, and they all look so confuuuuuuuuused and OMG their faces and the music swelling and OMG OMG.

3. "I can't carry the ring, Mr. Frodo, but I can carry you!" Egads, I get a little choked just thinking about that. Srsly, burst into tears right there in the theater. (There was this big and burly bodybuilder-type guy sitting next to me that day, and he'd been SO STOIC through the whole movie, then Sam says that line, and I just heard him go "... *sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiff*" Handed him a tissue without even looking and we just CRIIIIIIIED.)

OMG! YOU TOO? I CRY WHEN THE JEDIS ARE ALL ASSASSINATED TOO!
I thought I was the only one!

And the little kid! Augh! 'What are we supposed to do?' *light sabre menacingly turned on* *little child jerks in confusion*

I seriously love the third starwars a LOT. And I hated the first two eps SO much. But this movie made up for their sucking so bad. EWAAAAAAAAN! He is just ON FORM in that movie.

And I don't know why, but one of my fave parts is this:
'It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground.'
'ZOMG!You underestimate my power!
*quietly*'Don't try it.'
*PO0WNS regretfully but supah fast*

Seriously. That movie rocks. You've seen those animated clone wars things they did on tv a while back, right? Those were AMAZING. Seriosuly, Those fights RULED so HARD.

YES. *CRIES*

Absolutely. Obi-Wan/Ewan was just FULL of absolute EPIC WIN. And you're so right. That's totally what happened, LOL XD See, Anakin always wants to be THE BEST and have the most power and is completely arrogant about it, but Obi-Wan just IS the best. He's THE BEST defensive swordsman in the whole Jedi Order, and he's the Master of his lightsaber form as well. And he's just so damn humble.

YES. I have both of them on DVD LOL :D They're doing a 3D Clone Wars thing too soon :D

Yay for same movie likage. If you asked I'd say my faves were LotR, Gladiator, Moulin Rouge and R+J, not necessarily in that order.

I'm not a crier at all. I've cried in a grand total of 2 movies in my life: The Passion of the Christ just because they BEAT it out of you, and *hides in shame* Pearl Harbor. You know the bit where Cuba Gooding Jnr finds the coffin of his captain who was nice to him? For some reason I started crying.

Funniest story ever though about movie crying - got to the end of RotK and I *wanted* to cry just because. And got to Greyhavens and it was the last chance to, and I was about to get worked up into being teary eyed and there was one of those long lingering mournful Frodo shots, you know when Elijah just looks straight into the camera and pulls puppy dog eyes? And my sister just starts singing "Find a girl... settle down... if you want you can marry..." and I just cracked up laughing. And now whenever I see Greyhavens I just laugh :p

Well, I haven't seen The Passion of the Christ, and I don't want to, LOL.

PEARL HARBOR?!?!?!!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY?!!?! That is my MOST hated movie OF ALL TIME XDDDDDDD No, seriously, it's one of TWO films that I've almost walked out of. XDDDD *hugs* I won't hold it against you ;) XD

LMFAO XD I've had an experience like that where I was crying and then I made a comment and couldn't stop laughing XD

Peace,
Rotae
