Beatific: exaltedly happy; blissful

Drive-by update. I needs mah bed. BUT. I don't want to lose a day on this bloody thing because I'll never finish it if I do XDDDD

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag 8 people to do the same.

Day Five:
1. I went down to get some chips and potato cakes for tea (Friday = take away night :D), and because of the long line at the Mako, went to the place next door, only to find that the Hot Fish and Chips Guy (HFCG) was working THERE tonight. Not only his he hot, he makes THE BEST chips omfg, srsly. And he saw me through the glass and SMILED AT ME. AND. Gave me an extra 1 1/2 potato cakes. I think it's love. <333 LOLOL XDDDD
2. I watched Moulin Rouge today. There is NOTHING about that movie that I don't like. Absolutely NOTHING. There are things about Harry Potter and Star Wars and Avatar that I don't like... but there's not one thing in Moulin Rouge that I don't heart with the heat of a thousand burning suns. The directing, the production design, the music, the script, the acting, the sound, the feel, the look, the cinematography, the costumes, the story, the characters, the philosophy, hell - even the ending. *sigh*
3. I also watched some Avatar to remind myself how awesome it was after my anger at the casting directors of the live action film. Ugh. You slay me, Airbender ;) :D
4. I came up with a plot bunny for a Scorpius/Rose story... I dunno if it'll go anywhere, but I like it :D
5. Remembered that place that apparently sells POP TARTS. HOMG. I'm so going there tomorrow to see if they have them!! I MISS POP TARTS.
6. I did some washing :3
7. [livejournal.com profile] misora's choices for Avatar casting (thanks [livejournal.com profile] glockgal!) Chiyaki Kuriyama for Mai?! FUCK YEAH!!
8. Realising that while Warner Bros are still a bunch of fucking wankers, at least they stay (relatively) true to the world of Harry Potter. LOL. Well... by comparison anyway XDDD

COMMENTS TOMORROW. ALONG WITH POP TARTS!!! NOM NOM NOM :3

Peace,
Rotae

IKR?! [livejournal.com profile] opaleyes first introduced me to Moulin Rouge. Pretty much from the first time I saw it I fell in love with it. This movie was amazing and the casting was expertly done. I don't believe anyone could hate this movie.

POTATO CAKES ALWAYS MEAN LOVE OMG DUDE!!!! I need to know more about your saga with HFCG. XD

Also - so agree with your about WB. The HP movies aren't my favourite, but at least they aren't blatantly insulting! That's all I can hope for from big corporations, yaye!!

[identity profile] rotae.livejournal.com 2008-12-13 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
IKR?! IT SO TOTALLY IS LOVE XDDDD I wouldn't call it a "saga" though... I go in every other week between 5-9 on a Friday (that's his shift) and he either serves and/or cooks the food and he's cute and sweet (and really tall) and always gives me HUGE amounts of chips even though I only ever order medium XDDDD

It's a quiet kind of potatoey love <333 XDDDD

HAHA. Totally. I don't like the first two movies because they're SO Americanised, but the others are very good with the "feel" of HP, I think :D

Rotae

TBH I find that Avatar casting just as misguided as the original white bread casting, only in a different way.

The first error is "ethnicity doesn't matter and white people sell more tickets, bitches."

The second error is: "ethnicity does so matter! but um, this actor isn't the same ethnicity as the inspiration... fuck it the actor's got some Asian in him and all Asians are pretty much the same with their squinty eyes, right?"

I think both spring from ignorance, not malice, but I don't think "Let's cast a half Chinese girl as an Inuit" is any more racially aware than casting a "plain white" girl as one. If you condemn one out of hand, you must condemn the other.

It just gets into what I call "census fail", where people think that the only categories are those that are checkmarks on the census within high immigration countries like Australia and North America. So white people are all interchangeable, and black people, and Asian people, but never never never interchangeable with each other!!!

It's possible to have an Italian believably play a Spaniard, for instance, and the same goes with related Asian ethnicities, but to think that Kristin Kreuk or Maggie Q could believably play Inuits better than the supposedly cast white actress is dumb. None of them look Inuit. (And I found it curious that she chose so many hapas, too--that gets into another curiosity, where anyone who is half-white half-something else is never considered white, but always called the something else; witness Barack Obama, who is invariably called an African-American [has anyone ever called him a Caucasian-American?].)

But I'm not an Avatar fan so I don't really have a dog in the fight, lol.

No, no, seriously. This is exactly what I thought. I saw that list and was like... so we are just going to slap in whichever asians happen to be around at the time? The picks weren't even age appropriate. Kristen Kreuk as Katara? Seriously? She's like twice her age.

All her picks were far too old and while I wish they would have hired a better cast, I am mostly disappointed with the casting of Zuko, to be frank.

Also, glad they casted an Aang who is already awesome at karate.

I basically just want to know that the actors are the right ageish and that they can... you know. Act.
